GURU Lineage

Anne White

Ms White is a leading lady in the UK Oriental Dance scene. She trained with Suraya Hilal in the late 1980s and has been a performer and teacher since 1990, working alongside the UK's top musicians and touring artists like Hakim. Ms White has been funded by The Arts Council, Millenium Fund and the Big Lottery and with the support of dancers, musicians and growing audiences she established Planet Egypt which promotes Arabic music, dance and culture in London's longest and most established showcase night... a two hour monthly show with a string of international dancers sharing their work. Ms White has taught across Europe's most prestigious Oriental Dance Festivals, including the UK's Majma and Raqs Brittania with the Belly Dance Superstars. Her trademark Beledi style is taught alongside other traditional styles of Middle Eastern dance.

ORIENTAL DANCE:

Amani of Lebanon

La Diva De La Danse Orientale... This International Oriental superstar began her career in 1988, and has since been encircled by famous writers and poets, international TV crews, Lebanon's top performing and supporting artists and a strong international following of professional Oriental performers seeking to study with this accomplished Master, who is also dance historian. Her casted shows have included Histories 1 (1993), Histories 2 (1994), Histories 3 (1995), Histories 4 (1996), Amani around the World (1999), Ayam Wa Layali Amani (2001) and Layali El Hob (2002). She has travelled extensively to perform and teach in Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), Germany (Frankfurt), Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero), India (Bombay and New Delhi), Monaco (Monte Carlo), Spain (Madrid, Marbella), Switzerland (Montreux), Italy (Sardaigne, Rimini), France (Paris and Marseille), USA (Atlantic City, Orange County, Miami, LA, San Francisco, Oklahoma, Ohio etc) and England (London). Amani has hosted an annual international Oriental Dance Festival since 2005 where dancers study with a host of top Lebanese and International teachers and compete for a coveted title of La Sultana de la Danza. Amani has released a number of music CD's and continues to push the benchmarks in modern Oriental Dance Theatre.

JAZZ/CONTEMPORARY DANCE:

Diane Fincham

A star dancer of 15 years, appearing in over 48 musicals, on Rhodesian and South African TV, member of the Bulawayo City Ballet Co, performed with Merle Park, principal dancer with the Royal Ballet (Covent Gardens) and Judith Reyn also of Royal Ballet and performed with the original Jazzart Co under direction of Sue Parker and Brickhill Burke Productions. Ms Fincham trained since age 12 with teachers including Joe Pugliese and Fred Traguth (New York), Monica Saez (Cannes), Raymond Maclean (London) and Benjamin Felixdale (Bonn) as well as at the Alvin Ailey Dance Centre and Broadway Dance Centre (Broadway). Aside from adjudicating and examining the International Dance Teachers Association, Ms Fincham has won numerous awards including the prestigious BP Choreography Award in 1983.

Colin Charles

West-End star Mr Charles trained 2 years with Rambert Ballet and performed with the English National Opera in Orpheus in the Underworld, Faust, Don Carlos, and Aida before being taken on by a classical company in Sweden. His first West End musical was Cats, in which he performed the roles of Corricapat and Mr Mistofolees. He toured for 2 years with Wayne Sleep and his company incl a performance at London's Dominion Theatre. Other West end credits include King at the Piccadilly Theatre and Children of Eden at the Prince Edward Theatre. He played 4-eyed Moe in Five Guys Named Moe at the Lyric Theatre, Judah in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opposite Jason Donavon and Philip Schofiled at the London Palladium, the role of T Bone and understudy to the part of Joe in Carmen Jones - The Musical, the role of John in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, the role of Steven in Seeing the Light at the Roundhouse, Camden and the role of Tyrone in the production of Fame touring Scotland. Mr Charles played the principle role of Britney in We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre for the last 3 and a half years and is now playing on JT in the touring production Oh What A Night. He has also travelled around the world as a production singer for Costa Cruise Lines, and as a singer/choreographer for Celebrity Cruises. Mr Charles is a renowned teacher of Jazz dance, teaching at all major performing arts institutions in the UK and abroad.

YOGA:

Dr Tripathi

Dr Tripathi, PHD, of Varanassi, India has studied through India's ascended Yogic scholars and personal vocation the roots of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and pure Tantric Yogas as theoretical and practical philosophies/practises and teaches those lucky enough to find him in a system of personal coursework. His insights have been published from Europe to USA through a series of interviews and for those travelling to India, a stay in his family-run guest-house is recommended and incredibly illuminating. Presented here is a French filmaker's shoot of Dr Tripathi's Yagya Puja.

Sri Surash Babu

Sri Surash Babu is a leading Keralan yoga master and awakened Spirit. He has taught across India in teacher training capacity to leading components of the Medical field with his specialisations in the curing of disease through yoga. He is also master yogi at India's new branch of Niramaya Ayurveda and Yoga Kendra in Ottopalam in Kerala.

BALLET:

Jewelah Sat-Nam Kaur

Yoga Master, Jewelah, trained in Ballroom, African and Indian Dance since age 6 and began yoga studies in Hatha Yoga before setting out for India in her 20's to study with Yogi Bhajan, the Guru responsible for developing the system of Kundalini Yoga as a complete form and bringing it to the West. Jewelah apprenticed under him and set up his London base as the Lotus Healing Centre Ashram. Jewelah travelled to Tuscan, USA for further in-depth training and meditations. Dance studies furthered with JWAAD and Suraya Hilal, performing Egyptian Dance and Indian fusion in London, France and the USA for over 10yrs.

Mignon Furman

Internationally celebrated teacher, choreographer and dance educator, Ms Furman is acting-director of the UCT Ballet School, founder and director of UCT Youth Ballet and has served on CAPAB board, chaired the CT Dance Teachers Association for 9 years, was an examiner for 13 years for school graduation curriculum which she initiated by invitation from the SA Minister of Education and has served on the Arts Committee of Cape Town. Awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Ballet in 1984 and the coveted Naomi Press Award in 1985, by 1990 Ms Furman was appointed the USA Administrator of the Royal Academy of Dancing, where she initiated the American Academy of Ballet and subsequent performance awards which has since been taken to Japan. Ms Furman began her career in South Africa as a dancer with what is now CAPAB and also travelled to London to study ballet with Anna Northcote (Severskaya) and modern dance with Sigurd Leeder. Ms Furman has produced, aside from numerous shorter works, 4 full-scale ballets for CAPAB and continues to be a leading lady for ballet worldwide.

Franziska Rosenzweig

Franziska Rosenzweig trained at the State Ballet School in Berlin/ Germany. She joined the ballet of the German State Opera Berlin and was soloist with the Peter Schaufuss Ballet in Denmark. Ms Rosenweig is ballet lecturer for the Dance Foundation course at Shoreditch College, guest trainer with professional dance companies, including Random Dance, Richard Alston, Ballet Prejlocaj, Tanztheater Kassel etc and an established teacher at the famous London Dance School, Danceworks. She also teaches private sessions in Ballet, Gyrotonic® and Pilates as well as offers CranioSacral treatment at her Shoreditch Studio.

BHARAT NATAYAM (CLASSICAL SOUTH INDIAN DANCE):

V.N. Kanaga Bujam

Headmistress of Siva-Sakti Classical Dance School in Chidambaram - home to the most famous temple dedicated to the dancing form of God, Lord Nataraja. Ms Kanage Bujam's Bharat Nathayam lineage is from this sacred place where the Tandava Dance of Creation is believed to take place. Dancers are classicallly trained in her school from the earliest age in music and dance to participate in annual religious festivals and inter-city exchanges within the religious conforms. Ms Kanage herself was an exceptional dancer and trained other dancers for over 60 years.

MARTIAL ARTS (CHINESE STYLE):

KLWS was formed by Shirfu Dr Jeff Lan and Shirmo Amanda Lan. The center promotes Traditional Chinese Medicinal practices as well as the aspects of Traditional Martial skills and Health Preservation Arts. Guru Lineage is from Grandmaster (Shirgung) Feng-Chao Lin and Grandmaster (Shirgung) Liang Dong Sheng both from the Republic of China. From the centre my instructors were Joe and Justin.
